Site specific installation on Governors Island, New York, October 2023
Drawing, collage, woodcut, artist books, watercolors

For the month of October, 2023, arts organization Transborder Art gave me the kitchen of a former militay barrack among the dozens of such houses on Governor Island. During that time, I wandered around the island and contemplated its history as the first land that the Dutch seized before their beaded bid for Manhattan. How it traded hands between the Dutch, British, and Americans as an increasingly fortified military base. And how in the new millenium it had become a public park with its houses ceded to artists. This seemed an example of remediation, and the possibility that like all living things, narratives have their own lifespans and can nurture new stories while in decay.
